The life and holiness of the Knight...

Blessed Michael McGivney was a generous soul, founding the Knights of Columbus for the benefit of laymen and their families. He sought to help men stay strong in their Catholic faith and practice that faith through charitable works in their local communities. Here is the official collect prayer for his liturgical celebration on August 13, currently observed by the Archdiocese of Hartford and the members of the Knights of Columbus worldwide. The prayer summarizes his life, highlighting his charitable and gentle heart. God of eternal mercy, who set your priest Blessed Michael in the Churchto comfort the suffering and the weary, the lonely and the oppressedwith works of charity and a gentle heart, grant that, through his intercession,we too may become vessels of mercy in our dayand so enter into our heavenly inheritance.Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,God, for ever and ever.

Prayer for the Canonization of Fr. ...

God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor.  Through the example of his life and virtue may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church.  Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to great after confidence in your love so that you glorify your venerable servant Father Michael J. McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will.  Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make your request).  Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
