Today’s readings are Galatians 2: 1-2, 7-14; Psalm 117 and Lk. 11: 1-4
Of the 150 psalms which we encounter in the Book of Psalms, Psalm 117 is by far the shortest (in case you are wondering, Psalm 119 is the longest).
As short as Psalm 117 is, it packs a lot of food for thought. It begins with a call to praise and extol the one true God. But not just by the Jewish people, but peoples of every nation. This is a premonition of the call of Jesus to baptize all peoples of every nation in Matthew 28.
In the 2nd stanza the psalmist recognizes the steadfast love of God for His people – no matter what we do, and such love is far greater than what we could ever hope for. Another attribute of God that is recognized in this stanza is His faithfulness to us – through thick and sin, in our faithfulness, and yes, even when we sin. Faithful in the past, faithful now, faithful forever.
To all that we sing, “How great is our God”.
