Today's gospel can be easily applied to the role of leadership in the Church. Our current Holy father, Pope Francis, has consistently called all those in leadership in the Church, whether they be Cardinals, Bishops, Priests, Deacons or lay leaders to be servants, and not rulers, as the positions they hold are meant for evangelization foster evangelization amongst the faithful.
These positions also require that such leaders listen to their people, know the lives of their people, and share the Good News of Christ in a way that resonates in the lives of the people. To use the phrase of the Holy Father, "The shepherds should have the smell of their sheep".
We have blessed by being able to share the greatest message of all, the teachings of Jesus Christ, and in preaching the Word of God, in leading the celebrations of the sacraments of the Church and evangelizing the faithful, all leaders must understand that this is a joyful task of service.
