today's readings are Zeph. 3: 14-18 or Romans 12: 9-16; Psalm 12, Lk. 1: 39-56

As we close the month of May with the feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we again have the opportunity to ponder St. Luke's account of this story.

When Mary arrives, Elizabeth utters her profound greeting, part of which is included in the Holy Mary prayer. In turn, Mary shares a prayer of praise we call the Magnificat.

But there story concludes with a simple summary: And Mary remained with Elizabeth about three months, and then returned to her home.

I wonder what they did together, during those 3 months.  Much sharing and talking and praying, no doubt.  But there would have been much time spent doing the ordinary household chores of that time.  In my mind it must have been an time of bonding, and I imagine a few tears were shed when it was time for Mary's departure.  But it was in those ordinary moments that God was very much present, and I trust that they were mindful of it.

Let us pray that we too are aware of the workings of our God even in those ordinary times of our lives.
