today's other readings are from Tobit 4-8 and Psalm 126

Jesus, who truly knew the Jewish faith He was raised in, fully knew the Great Commandment known as the Sh’ma, said daily by all Jews: "Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is Lord alone! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. The second is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself."  One could argue that this was the only commandment Jesus followed, for in keeping it one would keep every other commandment. His life, His teachings was based on the seemingly simple but very demanding law.

Dear reader, what is the first commandment in your life? For some, the need for success drives every decision they make. For others, loyalty to family or group is the great commandment. For others, it is personal honor or finding approval and avoiding rejection.

But Jesus says no to this.  The only commandment to follow is The Great Commandment.
