today's Romans 15: 14-21 and Psalm 98

Today's parable has sometimes been referred to as the "prickliest parable" - and it is one that can make us scratch our heads, so to speak.  What's going on here?

We hear that a dishonest manager has been caught by his rich employer and is fired.  What to do? He goes to his employer's debtors and cuts the amounts that they owe the rich man.  For this, he helps to ensure that he will be taken care of in the future.  And for this, Jesus praises him.  But the dishonest manager continues to be dishonest!!

In this gospel, Jesus calls us to chase eternal wealth with the same tenacity and commitment with which we pursue earthly wealth and success. As we go through life, there are many things that pull on our time and our attention.  But how much time attention do we give to our pursuit of the eternal wealth with the Kingdom of Heaven.

As God's children, may we be creative and faithful and prudent in pursuing a future of eternal life.
