today's other readings are Psalm 84 and Mk. 7: 1-13

The temple of Jerusalem has finally been built, as we heard in yesterday's mass, again from 1 Kings 8.  Now the Ark of the Covenant is placed in the Holy of Holies in the Temple, and this will be the focus of worship for the Jewish people until the Temple is destroyed by the Babylonians in 587 BC.

Solomon has a good question to ask of the Lord, though.  Can God be found on earth?  The answer is a definitive "YES"!  For as we hear in today's Psalm, the response is "How lovely is your dwelling place, Lord, mighty God".

God also dwelt among us for those 33 years when His Son, Jesus, walked among us.  He is still present in the tabernacle found in every Catholic church, like ours - with that presence illuminated by the tabernacle candle.  And of course, He is among us whenever two or more are gathered in His name (Matt. 18: 20).
